Marista Dan, president of Composite Essential Materials (CEM, Port Saint Lucie, Fla., USA), reports that Composite Essential Materials has taken over the Nida-Core/3M core material business. 3M (St. Paul, Minn., USA) had acquired Nida-Core in January 2011, but subsequently decided to exit the core manufacturing business.

Marista Dan says that Dan Family Holdings, the owner of CEM, has agreements with all of the previous Nida-Core suppliers, including NidaPlast (the producer of Nida-Core) for plastic honeycombs, PGI Matline for laminating bulkers and Flexokore for balsa products. CEM will also offer PVC, PU, PET core materials, as well as glass-reinforced fiber board. In addition, CEM is a North American distributor of Nord Composites Resins (Condé Folie, France).

In the future, CEM says it will expand its offerings to include low-, medium-, and high-density honeycomb, as well as fire-retardant, infusion and resin transfer molding (RTM) honeycombs. Resin products to come include tooling resins, skinning material, transom putty and fillet, radius and sprayable print-blocking core. A second supplying location is being established in Elkhart, Ind., USA, where CEM will produce large pultruded panels with several core options and FRP surfaces.
